You can buy directly through our online store at www.mgandco.co.za, or you can contact us on WhatsApp if you would like help before purchasing.

Is it safe to buy fine jewellery online from Miller Gold?

We understand that buying jewellery online can feel like a big decision. Our process is designed to give you as much confidence and information as possible before the item leaves us.

We verify the physical item and SKU, inspect the piece, prepare the required documentation, package it securely and use our preferred courier company for home delivery. Jewellery is only released once the required payment has cleared.

  • Use our official website, WhatsApp number and email address when dealing with us.
  • If you receive banking details and are unsure, confirm them with our team before paying.
  • Ask for extra photographs, videos, measurements or a private viewing if you would like a closer look before purchasing.
  • Your purchase is supplied with a Miller Gold Valuation Certificate and Tax Invoice.
Can I view an item before purchasing?

Yes. Miller Gold is primarily an online retailer rather than a traditional walk-in showroom, but private viewings can be arranged by appointment in Cape Town, Sandton/Johannesburg and Durban.

We do not keep permanent stock at any of our branches. Most items are held securely in storage, so we first confirm the exact item and arrange for it to be available at the correct office. Please contact us before travelling to a branch.

Do you courier jewellery to my door?

Yes. We use our preferred courier company for secure jewellery deliveries within South Africa. The standard home-delivery courier fee is R300 unless another arrangement has been approved.

Before dispatch we confirm your full delivery address and contact number, complete final quality control and documentation, and make sure payment has cleared. Once booked, we send you the waybill details and keep you updated.

Can my ring be resized?

Many rings can be resized, but not every ring can be altered safely. The answer depends on the metal, design, stone setting, width, existing joins or repairs, hallmarks and how many sizes the ring needs to change.

As a practical guideline, some rings can be adjusted by up to approximately three sizes, but this is never an automatic rule. The greater the change, the more likely it is that proportions, settings, strength, pattern or appearance could be compromised. Our jeweller must assess the specific ring before work is approved.

What is your returns policy?

If you would like to return a purchase, please contact Miller Gold within 14 days of receiving the item so that we can guide you through the return process.

The returned item should be unworn, undamaged and in the same condition in which it was supplied. Return courier costs are for the customer's account and are not refundable. Once the item is received, it is inspected before an exchange, gift voucher, store credit/credit toward another purchase or EFT refund is approved.

Can I speak to someone before I buy?

Yes. A large part of our service happens personally through WhatsApp. We can help with availability, sizing, condition, certificates, additional photographs, viewing arrangements, delivery and payment questions before you decide.

Can an item be sent to another branch for me to view?

Yes, where practical. We first verify the item and stock location, retrieve it if necessary and arrange transfer to the relevant office for your appointment. Timing depends on stock location, courier cut-off times and insurance requirements, so we will confirm the earliest available viewing date with you.

Do you keep stock at all your branches?

No. We do not keep a full jewellery inventory at any of our offices. This is why viewings are arranged in advance.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment options may include online checkout, EFT, Payflex where available, and secure card payments through Yoco. If you would prefer to pay by card, our team can send you a secure Yoco payment link so you can complete your payment remotely. Card payments can also be processed through Yoco at an arranged branch appointment. We are a cashless business.

Any promotional or EFT discount must be specifically confirmed for the item. A Proof of Payment helps us begin verification, but jewellery is not released or couriered until the required funds have cleared.

Can I buy now and pay the item off?

Where Payflex is available at checkout, you can use it as a Buy Now, Pay Later option instead of an in-house lay-by. Select Payflex during Shopify checkout, create or sign in to your Payflex account and follow the payment plan shown to you.

The first payment is made upfront and the remaining amount is collected according to the Payflex option approved for you. Payflex currently offers several instalment structures in South Africa, but the exact options, limits and approval shown at checkout are controlled by Payflex.

Do you have credit-card facilities at your branches?

Yes. Card payments can be processed through Yoco at our branch appointments. Please arrange your visit with us in advance so that the item is available. We can also send you a secure Yoco payment link if you would prefer to pay by card remotely.

Can I buy a gift voucher?

Yes. Gift vouchers are available — message us on WhatsApp or give us a call and our team will help you set one up. A Yoco payment link can also be set up for the voucher amount.

What happens if the piece I wanted has already sold?

Many Miller Gold pieces are one-off. If an item has sold, send us a photograph or link and tell us what you liked about it, together with your preferred metal, stone, ring size and budget. We can add your requirements to our wish list and contact you if something suitable arrives.

Delivery, Collection & Packaging

Do you courier jewellery to my door?

Yes. We use our preferred courier company for secure jewellery deliveries within South Africa. The standard home-delivery courier fee is R300 unless another arrangement has been approved.

Before dispatch we confirm your full delivery address and contact number, complete final quality control and documentation, and make sure payment has cleared. Once booked, we send you the waybill details and keep you updated.

How long does delivery take?

Our standard delivery guideline is approximately 3 to 7 working days after payment has been confirmed, depending on the destination, stock preparation and courier schedule. Same-day or overnight delivery may be available in certain areas and will carry an additional courier charge. We will obtain a quote from our preferred courier company and confirm the cost and availability with you before arranging the delivery.

Urgent or overnight delivery may sometimes be possible if the item is physically ready, payment clears before the cut-off and our preferred courier company can accept the booking. We will never promise an overnight delivery until those points have been confirmed.

Do you courier jewellery over a weekend?

We generally avoid sending jewellery into weekend transit because of insurance requirements. If timing is urgent, contact us and we will confirm the safest available courier option and delivery date.

Is my parcel insured?

Yes. Our jewellery deliveries are sent using our preferred courier company and are insured in accordance with our delivery arrangements. We retain the relevant waybill or tracking information and follow up after delivery.

How is my jewellery packaged?

Each order is packed to protect the jewellery during handling and transit. The item is placed in suitable protective jewellery packaging and then secured in an outer courier parcel appropriate for insured delivery.

Where a pre-owned branded item includes its original box, pouch, booklet, card or other original accessory, this will be stated on the product listing or confirmed to you. Original branded packaging is not automatically included with every pre-owned item.

Can I collect instead of paying for courier?

Yes. Collection can be arranged by appointment from our associated offices in Cape Town, Sandton/Johannesburg or Durban, depending on availability. The R300 home-delivery fee does not apply to branch collection.

What should I do if my parcel appears damaged or tampered with?

Please contact us immediately and keep the outer packaging, inner packaging and all contents. Photographs of the parcel as received are helpful. We will investigate the delivery and guide you through the next step.

Documentation, Valuations & Appraisals

Will I receive a Tax Invoice?

Yes. Miller Gold purchases are supplied with a Tax Invoice. Please make sure we have the correct billing details and address if you require specific information to appear on the invoice.

Will I receive a valuation certificate?

Yes. Jewellery pieces are supplied with a Miller Gold Valuation Certificate together with the Tax Invoice.

The valuation is generally an insurance/replacement assessment. It is not the same as the price you paid, a trade-in value, a second-hand resale value or the amount Miller Gold or Gold & Finance might offer to buy the item back for. For this reason, an insurance replacement value can be higher than the purchase price.

What is the difference between a valuation, an appraisal and a diamond grading report?

A valuation gives a monetary value for a stated purpose, for example insurance replacement, probate or another defined use. An appraisal is a professional assessment of the item, its materials, condition and characteristics. A laboratory diamond grading report describes the quality characteristics of a specific diamond and does not state its retail or resale value.

The purpose matters, so tell us why you need the document and we can guide you toward the correct service.

Can you value jewellery I already own?

Yes. Standalone jewellery valuations are available by appointment. The item needs to be physically inspected at one of our offices before a final valuation can be issued. Photographs can be useful for an initial conversation, but they are not a substitute for physical assessment.

The current valuation assessment fee is R250. Specialist, complex or multi-item work may require a separate quotation. Please contact us before visiting so we can confirm the appointment and scope.

Do you provide insurance valuations?

Yes. We can prepare insurance/replacement valuations for suitable jewellery and valuables. An insurance value estimates the cost of replacing a comparable item at the valuation date and should not be confused with second-hand selling value.

Can you grade a diamond for me?

Our team has more than 30 years of jewellery and diamond-industry experience and can professionally assess diamonds using the information, testing and documentation available to us.

A Miller Gold assessment is not the same thing as an independent laboratory grading report from GIA, EGL South Africa or another recognised laboratory. If you need formal laboratory grading, speak to us about the appropriate route for the stone.

Quality, Condition & Hallmarks

What quality checks do you perform on pre-loved jewellery?

Pre-loved jewellery is assessed before it is offered for sale. Depending on the piece, our checks may include the precious metal, gemstones, settings, claws, clasps, hallmarks, visible previous repairs, construction, craftsmanship and overall condition.

Where appropriate, an item may be professionally cleaned, polished, rhodium plated, repaired, resized or restored before final quality control. Material condition issues that we can reasonably identify are disclosed.

Does pre-loved mean the jewellery will look brand new?

Not necessarily, though most of our pieces are gently used and come up good as new once refurbished. Pre-loved jewellery has been previously owned and may show reasonable signs of age or wear. Some pieces have been polished, repaired, resized or restored. We assess each item individually and aim to describe material condition accurately, rather than pretending every pre-owned piece is factory-new.

What is a hallmark?

A hallmark or metal fineness mark is a stamp or mark that can help identify the metal content of a piece. Jewellery may also carry a maker's mark, brand mark, assay mark, serial number or other identifying information.

Hallmarks are one part of authentication and assessment. On older or altered jewellery they can be worn, faint or occasionally lost during past resizing or repair, so the absence of a clear stamp does not on its own prove that an item is not genuine.

Mark Usually means Fineness
375 9ct gold 37.5% gold
585 14ct gold 58.5% gold
750 18ct gold 75.0% gold
925 Sterling silver 92.5% silver
950 Common platinum fineness 95.0% platinum

Marks should always be read together with the piece itself, its construction, testing, documentation and professional assessment.

Diamonds & Gemstones

What does "certified diamond" mean?

In everyday jewellery language, "certified" usually means that a diamond is accompanied by an independent laboratory grading report. The report records the stone's measured and graded characteristics, allowing you to understand exactly what has been assessed.

A grading report is not a valuation and does not guarantee a future selling price. It relates to the specific diamond identified on the report.

What are the 4Cs of diamond grading?

The 4Cs work together. Two diamonds with the same carat weight can differ significantly in appearance and value because their colour, clarity, cut, proportions and other characteristics differ.

  • Carat: the diamond's weight.
  • Colour: for colourless to light-yellow/brown diamonds, the absence or degree of body colour.
  • Clarity: the relative presence or absence of internal inclusions and external blemishes.
  • Cut: how well the diamond's proportions and finish work together to return light. Formal cut grades are report-dependent and are not applied in exactly the same way to every fancy shape.
What is a GIA diamond report?

GIA, the Gemological Institute of America, issues independent diamond grading reports. A GIA report can include the diamond's carat weight, colour, clarity, cut information where applicable, measurements, proportions, polish, symmetry, fluorescence and identifying characteristics.

GIA itself uses the term "grading report" rather than "certificate". The report describes the diamond's quality; it does not certify its monetary value.

What is an EGL South Africa report?

EGL South Africa is an independent gemmological laboratory that issues reports/certificates for diamonds and coloured gemstones. Where an item has an EGL South Africa report, the report number and grading information relate to the specific stone or item identified by the laboratory.

EGL South Africa also provides an online report-verification facility. As with any laboratory document, the report describes the stone and is separate from Miller Gold's insurance/replacement valuation.

Does every diamond come with a certificate?

Not every diamond is accompanied by an independent laboratory grading report. This is particularly common with smaller diamonds, diamonds already set into jewellery, vintage pieces and multi-stone jewellery. Where a diamond is accompanied by an independent laboratory report, such as a GIA or EGL South Africa report, this will be clearly stated in the product description. Where there is no independent laboratory report, the diamond is professionally assessed and described based on the information and testing available to us. Miller Gold & Co. is led by Sindy, a GIA-trained jewellery and diamond specialist with over 30 years of experience in the jewellery industry and formal diamond grading and gemmological training. Diamond weights, colour and clarity assessments that have not been independently laboratory graded may be stated as approximate or estimated.

Where an independent laboratory report is included, we state this. Where measurements, weights, colour or clarity are based on professional assessment rather than a laboratory report, they may be described as approximate or estimated.

Do you sell laboratory-grown diamonds?

No. Miller Gold & Co. currently sells natural diamonds and does not sell laboratory-grown diamonds.

Can a diamond report tell me what the diamond is worth?

No. A grading report describes the diamond's quality characteristics. Market value depends on additional factors including current diamond pricing, demand, rarity, exchange rates, cut quality, the jewellery setting and the purpose of the valuation. A separate valuation or appraisal is required when a monetary value is needed.

Branded Jewellery & Luxury Watches

Are your branded jewellery items authentic?

Miller Gold carefully inspects and assesses branded jewellery before offering it for sale. Where an item is described as authenticated, the authentication is an independent Miller Gold assessment and/or an assessment by an appropriate independent specialist based on the item's characteristics, markings, construction, serial or reference information, documentation and other information reasonably available.

Depending on the item, we may also make use of specialist checks, brand/reference information or external authentication channels, including sources relating to Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Montblanc, Luxity and Browns where appropriate and available.

Miller Gold & Co. is an independent pre-owned retailer. Unless expressly documented otherwise, this does not mean Miller Gold is affiliated with, authorised by, sponsored by or endorsed by the original brand or manufacturer.

Does branded jewellery always come with the original box, certificate or booklet?

No. Pre-owned pieces do not always retain their original box, pouch, invoice, guarantee card, booklet or certificate.

If original brand packaging or documentation is included with the sale, it will be specifically stated in the listing or confirmed to you. Only the accessories and documents expressly stated as included form part of the sale.

Does an original manufacturer warranty transfer with a pre-owned item?

Not automatically. Unless we specifically confirm it in writing, we do not represent that an original manufacturer's warranty, complimentary service programme or other brand benefit remains valid or transfers to the new owner. Any Miller Gold service commitment is separate from the original brand.

Can resizing, polishing or repair affect a branded item?

It can. A pre-owned branded item may already have been polished, resized, repaired or restored. Future alterations can also affect original specifications, markings or the willingness of the original manufacturer to service the item. We therefore assess branded pieces carefully before recommending workshop work.

Ring Sizing & Resizing

Can my ring be resized?

Many rings can be resized, but not every ring can be altered safely. The answer depends on the metal, design, stone setting, width, existing joins or repairs, hallmarks and how many sizes the ring needs to change.

As a practical guideline, some rings can be adjusted by up to approximately three sizes, but this is never an automatic rule. The greater the change, the more likely it is that proportions, settings, strength, pattern or appearance could be compromised. Our jeweller must assess the specific ring before work is approved.

How much does ring resizing cost?

Resizing is quoted case by case. Cost depends on the metal, design, amount of resizing, whether extra metal is required, the stone settings and any additional work such as polishing, rhodium plating or checking claws.

We will obtain a quote from our jeweller and confirm the cost with you before proceeding.

Can a full eternity ring be resized?

A full eternity ring is one of the most difficult ring styles to resize and, in many cases, conventional resizing is not recommended or possible.

The stones and settings continue all the way around the band, leaving no plain section of metal to cut, add to or remove. Changing the circumference can disturb the spacing and security of multiple stones and can affect the geometry of the entire ring. Depending on the design, the safer solution may be a remake or another specialist option rather than standard resizing.

What about a half-eternity or partially stone-set ring?

These are often easier to resize because there is usually a plain metal section at the back of the ring, but the design still needs to be assessed. The closer the stones are to the resizing area, the more care is required.

What happens after a ring has been resized?

After authorised workshop work, the ring is checked again before return or delivery. Depending on the piece, this may include checking stone settings/claws, finish and general condition, together with polishing or rhodium where required.

Returns & Refunds

What is your returns policy?

If you would like to return a purchase, please contact Miller Gold within 14 days of receiving the item so that we can guide you through the return process.

The returned item should be unworn, undamaged and in the same condition in which it was supplied. Return courier costs are for the customer's account and are not refundable. Once the item is received, it is inspected before an exchange, gift voucher, store credit/credit toward another purchase or EFT refund is approved.

Can I receive a refund?

Yes, EFT refunds are available in approved return cases after the returned item has been received and inspected. We do not process a refund simply on the basis that a parcel has been sent back; the item first needs to be checked.

Is there a handling fee on returns?

If inspection shows that the returned item has been worn or has acquired scratches, marks, damage, deterioration or other change in condition, Miller Gold reserves the right to charge a 10% handling fee calculated on the original purchase price.

Returns requested after the 14-day period may be considered at Miller Gold's discretion and may also attract a 10% handling fee. Nothing in this Help Centre limits any mandatory consumer rights that apply under South African law.

Who pays for return courier costs?

Return shipping to Miller Gold is for the customer's account unless a different arrangement has been approved for a specific service issue. We recommend using a suitable insured method for valuable jewellery.

What if I received the wrong item, wrong metal colour or there is a problem with my order?

Contact us as soon as possible. We will verify the order, SKU and item supplied and then arrange the appropriate solution, which may include insured collection, exchange, correction, workshop assessment, replacement documentation or another approved resolution. We keep the matter open until the issue has been resolved with you.

Can I return a ring after it has been resized or altered for me?

Please contact us before returning any item that has been resized, engraved, repaired or otherwise altered at your request. The return position can depend on the nature of the work and the circumstances of the purchase, together with any rights that apply under South African consumer law.

Krugerrands & Proof Coins

What is a Krugerrand?

The Krugerrand is a South African gold coin first issued in 1967. Gold Krugerrands are made from a durable 22ct gold alloy. The "1 oz", "1/2 oz", "1/4 oz" and "1/10 oz" descriptions refer to the amount of fine gold contained in the coin, not the coin's total alloy weight.

Bullion Krugerrands are primarily bought and sold for their gold content and investment/trading value. Their price therefore moves with the gold price, together with the applicable dealer/manufacturing premium.

Size Approx. fine gold content
1 oz 31.1035 g fine gold
1/2 oz 15.5517 g fine gold
1/4 oz 7.7759 g fine gold
1/10 oz 3.1103 g fine gold
What is the difference between a bullion Krugerrand and a proof Krugerrand?

A bullion Krugerrand is produced primarily for investment and trading in gold. A proof Krugerrand is produced as a collector coin using a more specialised striking and finishing process, with polished fields and contrasting frosted detail.

Proof coins are produced in more limited quantities and can carry a collector premium above their gold value. Age, mintage, condition, rarity, demand and whether the original proof packaging or certificate is present can all affect the price.

Why can a proof Krugerrand cost much more than a bullion Krugerrand of the same size?

Both may contain the same stated fine-gold amount, but a proof coin is valued as both precious metal and a collectible. The additional price can reflect its specialised finish, limited mintage, year, condition, collectability, original presentation material and current demand. This is why proof pricing should not be compared with bullion pricing on gold content alone.

Do Krugerrand prices stay the same?

No. Bullion prices move with the gold price and dealer premium, while proof prices can also be influenced by collector-market factors. Contact us for current availability and pricing rather than relying on an older advertised price.

Are Miller Gold Krugerrands authenticated?

Yes. Coins are assessed and authenticated before listing. Where a proof coin includes original packaging or supporting documentation, this will be stated or confirmed as part of the sale.

Selling Jewellery & Gold & Finance

Does Miller Gold buy jewellery from the public?

Selling enquiries are handled through our sister company, Gold & Finance. Gold & Finance specialises in buying and valuing jewellery, diamonds and gemstones, precious metals, Krugerrands and gold coins, luxury watches and selected branded or estate pieces. This includes luxury and branded gold and diamond jewellery.

Miller Gold focuses on retailing carefully selected pieces, while Gold & Finance handles the buying and valuation side of the group.

How do I enquire about selling an item?

You can contact Miller Gold or Gold & Finance and send the following information to get the process started:

  • Clear photographs from several angles.
  • Any valuation certificates, diamond grading reports, original invoices or brand paperwork you have.
  • A brief description of the item, if known.
  • Your location/area.
  • For branded items, photographs of hallmarks, serial/reference numbers, boxes, cards or other identifying details where available.
Do I need a valuation before I sell?

Not necessarily. A selling assessment and an insurance valuation serve different purposes. Gold & Finance can assess an item for a potential purchase offer. An insurance replacement value should not be used as the expected cash selling price.

Does Gold & Finance offer loans against jewellery?

Yes. Gold & Finance can assist with loans against suitable jewellery, subject to assessment, identity/compliance requirements and the applicable loan terms. Contact the team for a current quotation and terms.

Branches, Appointments & Contact

Where are your branches?

Our Cape Town office is at 14th Floor, 1 Thibault Square, corner Hans Strijdom Avenue and Long Street, Cape Town, 8001. For Sandton/Johannesburg and Durban appointments, please contact us first so we can confirm the correct office, available time and whether the item has arrived for viewing.

Can I simply walk in to view jewellery?

Please arrange an appointment first. We do not operate as a conventional jewellery showroom and we do not hold all stock at every office. Booking ahead allows us to retrieve or transfer the exact piece you want to see and make sure it is ready for you.

International Customers & South African VAT

I live overseas. If I buy jewellery in South Africa and take it home with me, can I claim the VAT back?

A qualifying non-resident or foreign visitor may be able to claim a refund of South African VAT paid on qualifying goods that are personally exported from South Africa, subject to the SARS Export Regulations and the VAT Refund Agency process.

Miller Gold will provide the required Tax Invoice for your purchase, but the refund is not automatic and Miller Gold does not approve or pay the tourist VAT refund. The traveller is responsible for meeting the current SARS/VAT Refund Agency requirements.

  • Keep your original Tax Invoice and travel documents.
  • The goods generally need to be exported within the prescribed period and must be available for Customs inspection at departure.
  • Use a designated commercial port and follow the Customs/VAT Refund Agency process.
  • Special rules can apply to second-hand goods, so the refundable amount may differ from a simple calculation of the VAT shown on the purchase.
  • From 1 July 2026, travellers using the South African Traveller Declaration system should declare relevant goods and then present themselves and the goods to Customs when claiming a VAT refund.

Because tax and export rules can change, international customers should check the current SARS and VAT Refund Agency requirements before travelling.
